Staining or maintaining the stain on a log home is more than keeping it looking great, staining gives long-lasting protection for the exterior.

Many types of stains can be applied to a log home. No matter your choice of stain, the goal is to protect the exterior from UV and weather elements. Some things to consider when looking at what type of stain to use could be:

• Stain Type and Brand

• Caulking or No Caulking

Our Log Cabin Staining Process

Cabin lovers take pride in their log homes and Coldwater Painting wants to ensure that you are comfortable and satisfied with the process. Whatever the condition of your log home, sometimes the process is a little different.

Some of the factors when looking at your log home for staining may include determining if it’s new timber, never stained, or previously stained wood and if it’s previously stained, what type of stain was applied.

Once we have identified the condition of the home, we will:

1. Clean the surface with necessary detergents, strippers, or water only, and pressure wash to clean the home and remove any previous stain (if necessary).
2. Allow the surface to dry.
3. Apply Caulk where necessary (or chink).
4. Apply the stain with a natural bristle brush, roller, or sprayer.
5. Ensure customer satisfaction.

If the homeowner is choosing to use a translucent wood stain, then generally only one coat is necessary and the staining process is slightly different. If we are applying a solid-color stain, then 2 coats would be required and it would be applied like most paints.
